Crossfield Construction has been appointed as Main Contractor on the redevelopment and extension of Hunts Cross Health Centre.

The million-pound project supported by NHS England funding has been designed by DK Architects, with Markhams as Employers’ Agent. It creates a first floor extension and incorporates a full refurbishment of the existing centre to allow for a new state of the art health facility.

The completed scheme will increase the number of consultation rooms for GP and other services, and includes space for group meetings. It is anticipated that the additional space will offer the option for some NHS hospital services to be brought into the area to complement the services already provided by the practice. Provision of an on-site pharmacy is also included.

Construction works, which began in April 2018 include removal of the existing roof and ceilings, refurbishment of existing ground floor accommodation, a new first floor to house an additional 6 consulting rooms, admin space and a meeting room. A lift will be installed to the first floor.

The geographical site and space to undertake this construction project is tight, and it has been crucial to ensure effective and timely communication between the congregation and Elders of St Columba United Reform Church, and local residents. The Practice and Crossfield Construction have worked in Partnership to ensure engagement with all affected by the works and are thrilled with the support and enthusiasm for the project.

Whilst the work progresses, it has been necessary for the services of Health Centre to be relocated to facilities at Speke Neighbourhood Health Centre in order to continue providing health care to all its patients.

David Cain, Director of Crossfield Construction said: “We are delighted to have secured this project for Hunts Cross Health Centre where works are progressing very well. We look forward to delivering a fantastic new health facility, whilst keeping disruption to an absolute minimal for the local church parishioners and residents who live in close proximity to the site.”

“Cathy Hogan, Practice Manager said, “It has taken 3 years of negotiation with NHS England to get this project off the ground. We are delighted our local Clinical Commissioning Group has supported our efforts and we are pleased to be working with Crossfield Construction. Our transition to Speke has been smooth and we are looking forward to returning to our home in Hunts Cross where we will continue to develop and extend the services we offer to local residents”

Gerald Begley, Employer’s Agent at Markhams commented “Following a successful tender bid by Crossfield Construction, it is great to see the development of Hunts Cross Health Centre underway. The collaboration between the client, professional team and local community has been exemplary with a thorough understanding of and commitment to deliver the works between all. We look forward to delivery of a project that will be a help and benefit to the local area for the foreseeable future.”
